The fibers are set in alum to resist bleeding. Place the sticky side down when laying tar paper. It is commonly called 15lb paper. Lay the first strip of tar paper side to side with its bottom edge along the edge of the roof.

Continue overlapping strips up each side of the roof leaving the peaks uncovered. Begin at the bottom edges of the roof and go up.
